Dominoes
Use domino cards and the student have to match the ending consonant sound of one domino with the initial sound of the next word. For example, if a player lays out the cat domino, the next player must lay down a domino picture that begins the a /t/ sound. This will help students with beginning and ending sounds and will help them associate letter sounds to the letters.
Listen to Vowel Sounds
Create a board game by gluing on a page of vowel on each side of an opened file folder so players can view vowels right side up. Use picture cards and place them down in a pile and the teacher can decide which student will start. The first player picks up a card, pronounces the word for the picture, listens to the vowel sound and matches the picture with the correct vowel space. If the player cannot place the card on the correct vowel space, the care is place on the bottom of the pile. Students alternated turns. The game is finished when the students fill all vowel spaces.
