Word Ladders
This is the more difficult version of Hen to Fox because stuents are adding, deleting, rearranging, or substituting letters to create words that correlate to a definition. The following is an example of the activity:

Add one letter to create a word that refers to what a person may do with his/her eye (wink)
Change one letter to create a word that names a part of a bird (wing)
Add one letter to create a word that names a favorite piece of playground equipment (swing)
Delete one letter to create a word that refers to a rock star's talent (sing)
Add one letter to create a word that refers to the action of a bee (sting)
Add one letter to create a word that refers to a part of tennis shoes (string)

Word Sorting with words
Write 15-20 words on sentence strips and cute the strips into single-word sections. Let the students sort the words however they choose. Ask student to expalin the strategy they used to sort the words. (Ideas on how they can sort: number of syllables, initial sound, endind sound, vowel sounds, or shared sounds).
