Retelling with Detail
This is similar to doing a fast retell, however, students will be retelling the story with as much detail as they can from the read aloud. This will let you see how much the students can comprehend and if the are paying attention when being read a story.
Guided Reading Dice
Have many short stories numbered. Have students roll the dice and read the short story they rolled. After they are done reading it, have students answer questions about the story they read. You will get to see how much students are understanding when reading.
